As we close the first issue of BioShorts, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the incredible journey we’ve undertaken since the journal’s launch. This inaugural issue, spanning the second half of 2024, has been a remarkable success, and it has been an honour to collaborate with top UK universities, including Swansea University and Northumbria University, to produce high-quality manuscripts. We are immensely grateful to our reviewers, who have come from esteemed institutions such as the University of Washington (USA), the University of Bergen (Norway), and the University of Cape Town (South Africa). Your invaluable feedback and dedication have been key to ensuring the quality of our publication, and we extend a heartfelt thank you to each of you.
This first issue has covered a range of topics, offering novel insights into marine conservation, marine pollution, captive animal enrichment, and innovative inventions. We are proud to contribute to these important areas, which continue to shape our understanding of ecology and biological sciences. All of the articles published in BioShorts are adaptations from outstanding undergraduate or Master's dissertations, produced through collaboration between the early-career researchers who conducted the studies and the BioShorts writing team. These exemplary publications have set a high standard for publications at BioShorts, and we believe they will serve as both a benchmark for future work and a source of inspiration for young researchers, showcasing what can be achieved.
Looking ahead, we are excited for the next issue, with articles already in development or under peer review, set for publication in early 2025. Going forward, each issue will span a full calendar year, with the second issue concluding at the end of 2025. We look forward to bringing you more interesting research in the months to come.
Thank you for your continued support, and we hope to see you in the next issue.
